HANDS ON Theatre Workshop
March 2007
Small Beginnings received a grant from the Kent
Children's Fund community chest to run a 'play in a day' workshop for 7 -11 year olds.
HANDS ON gave young people the opportunity to
devise, create, produce and perform a play in just one day, using techniques from puppetry, mime and storytelling.
The workshop was led by storyteller Jacqueline Summer and puppeteers
The Theatre of the Small, and culminated in a performance for family and friends.
WINTER TALES Festival of Stories
January 2007
Thanks to the STARR Initiative, PFIZER Ltd and Sandwich
Town Council, the 2nd WINTER TALES FESTIVAL OF STORIES was hosted by Small Beginnings in Sandwich during National Storytelling
Week 2007.
November 2006
A networking and workshopping day hosted by The Theatre of
the Small & Small Beginnings on behalf of The British Puppet & Model Theatre Guild.
The Theatre
of the Small and Small Beginnings offered BPMT Guild members and interested parties the chance to get together, meet
non-puppeteers with a professional interest in puppetry, and try their hands at something new. Workshops were given by Robert
Poulter (model theatre), Peter Cook (junk music) and James & Sonia Frost (simple bunraku technique).
TALL TALES
Summer 2006
Small Beginnings received
an Awards for All grant to fund a series of community workshops in the summer of 2006.
The
Tall Tales workshops enabled a group of young people the chance try their hand at puppetry and model-making. A series of processional puppets and props were created, based on characters
from the town's medieval history. The puppets accompanied the town's giant medieval character, created by the people of Sandwich
and Strange Cargo Arts, in parades around
the county and across the channel.
The Awards for All grant
also supported Small Beginnings' first WINTER TALES festival of stories in Sandwich in January 2006.
SPRINGBOARD SESSIONS
Spring 2006
Small Beginnings received
a grant from KCF's Innov- 8! project to run a series of creative workshops.
The six 'Springboard Sessions'
were two-hour taster workshops for 7-11 year olds involving puppetry, model theatre making, storytelling, music and
dance.
